The goal of the procedure is to reduce the movement of certain muscle areas to protect the elastic material that the skin needs to look youthful. This ultimately reduces the vulnerability of skin in developing lines in areas where there is a lot of movement. BTA allows the skin to replace the collagen, reducing the lines. Generally, you’ll start to see improvements 2-4 weeks after treatment and the results will continue to improve until the BTA wears off, which is usually 3-4 months after application. Results are variable and it is usually recommended to repeat the treatment every four months in order to get the best possible results.
Treatment should not be more frequent than every 3 months. If you choose not to continue treatment, wrinkles will gradually return to the way they looked before your initial treatment.
If you feel that your face is showing excessive signs of age then you may want to consider Botox, which is typically used to reduce and even reverse the aging process in certain areas of the face. This involves the reduction of wrinkles and lines that are caused when the skin has lost some of the elastic fibres and cushioning collagen that makes the skin plump and elastic. Movement can squeeze the elastic material out of the skin and causes an indentation. As we age, collagen and elastin production is reduced, making skin more vulnerable to developing lines in the areas where there is a lot of movement. Often it is used as a solution to deep frown lines that are common in many men and women as well as other lines that appear on the face.
Further consultation may be needed if you:
- Are taking immunosuppressive medications
- Are taking aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or any other medication that affects bleeding
- Have any questions about precautions related to the treatment
